Description

Raspberry Leaf, Organic

(Rubus idaeus)

Rubus idaeus — Red Raspberry — is one of the most beloved and widely cultivated fruits in the temperate world, native to Europe and northern Asia and naturalized across North America, where it has been cultivated for its fruit since at least the 4th century AD. While the raspberry fruit needs no introduction, the leaf of Rubus idaeus has its own long and distinguished history as a botanical preparation, used in European and North American herbal traditions for centuries. Red raspberry leaf is one of the most popular and widely consumed herbal teas in the Western herbal tradition — a mild, pleasant, slightly astringent tea with a flavor reminiscent of black tea, making it one of the most approachable and enjoyable of all herbal infusions. Our Organic Raspberry Leaf is carefully harvested and dried to preserve the full aromatic and phytochemical profile of the fresh leaf. Certified Organic.

Raspberry leaf is rich in a well-studied array of phytochemicals including tannins (ellagitannins — including sanguiin H-6 and lambertianin C — and gallotannins, responsible for the characteristic astringency), ellagic acid (a polyphenolic antioxidant), flavonoids (quercetin, kaempferol, tiliroside, hyperoside), vitamin C (ascorbic acid), vitamin E (tocopherols), vitamin A (beta-carotene), B vitamins (including folate), iron, calcium, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, zinc, fragarine (an alkaloid characteristic of Rubus species), and volatile aromatic compounds. Available in Cut & Sifted and Powder forms. Certified Organic.
