Description

Onion, Dried

(Allium cepa)

Few ingredients have shaped the flavor of world cuisine as profoundly as the humble onion. Allium cepa — cultivated for more than 5,000 years across the ancient civilizations of Egypt, Mesopotamia, India, and China — is one of the most universally used culinary plants on earth. Our dried onion is grown in California, is Non-GMO, and is Kosher Certified — a USA product of exceptional quality and concentrated flavor. Through careful drying, the water content is removed while the characteristic sugars, sulfur compounds, and aromatic oils are preserved and intensified: it takes approximately 9 pounds of fresh onions to produce just 1 pound of our dried onion, resulting in a product of remarkable depth and potency.

Onion is rich in a broad array of phytochemicals and nutrients including quercetin (one of the richest dietary sources), kaempferol, anthocyanins (in red varieties), organosulfur compounds (including alliin, allicin precursors, and thiosulfinates), fructooligosaccharides (prebiotic fibers), vitamin C, B vitamins (B6, folate), potassium, manganese, and chromium. Available in Minced, Granulated, and Powder forms.
