Description

Tongkat Ali Root Powder — Longjack

(Eurycoma longifolia)

Eurycoma longifolia — Tongkat Ali, Longjack, or Pasak Bumi — is a slender, slow-growing flowering tree of the family Simaroubaceae native to the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia, found primarily in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines, where it grows in the acidic, well-drained soils of lowland and montane rainforests at elevations up to 1,500 meters. Eurycoma longifolia is one of the most important and widely used botanical tonics in the traditional medicine systems of Malaysia (Jamu and Malay traditional medicine), Indonesia, and Vietnam, where the root has been used for centuries as a bitter tonic herb. The common name Tongkat Ali is Malay for “Ali’s walking stick” — a reference to the plant’s long, slender taproot, which can reach 1–2 meters in length and is the primary botanical product. The alternative name Longjack is a direct English translation of the same concept. In traditional Malay and Indonesian practice, the root is typically prepared as a decoction — boiled in water and consumed as a bitter tonic tea — and it is one of the most commercially significant medicinal plants of Southeast Asia, with a substantial export trade from Malaysia and Indonesia. Eurycoma longifolia is listed in the Malaysian Herbal Monograph and has been the subject of extensive phytochemical and pharmacological research, particularly in Malaysian and Indonesian academic institutions.

Eurycoma longifolia root contains one of the most complex and distinctive phytochemical profiles of any Southeast Asian botanical, most notably a family of highly oxygenated quassinoids — bitter tetracyclic triterpenoids unique to the family Simaroubaceae — including eurycomanone (the primary quassinoid and principal quality marker — the most bitter compound in the root), eurycomanol, eurycomalactone, eurycomaoside, longilactone, eurycolactone A, B, and C, pasakbumin A and B, eurycomalide A and B, and eurycomanol-2-O-β-D-glucopyranoside; along with canthin-6-one alkaloids (including 9-methoxycanthin-6-one, 9-hydroxycanthin-6-one, and canthin-6-one-3-N-oxide — beta-carboline alkaloids unique to Eurycoma), tirucallane-type triterpenes, squalene, stigmasterol, beta-sitosterol, campesterol, high-molecular-weight polysaccharides (glycoproteins), tannins, saponins, eugenol, vanillin, cinnamic acid, ferulic acid, chlorogenic acid, potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc, manganese, and phosphorus. 100% Pure, Non-GMO. Available in Powder form.

How to Use

Traditional Decoction: Simmer ½–1 teaspoon of Tongkat Ali powder in 8 oz of water for 10–15 minutes; strain and drink. The flavor is intensely bitter — traditionally sweetened with honey. Smoothies: Blend ¼–½ teaspoon into smoothies or protein shakes — the bitterness is masked by fruit and other strong flavors. Coffee: Stir a small amount into black coffee in the traditional Malaysian manner — a popular preparation throughout Southeast Asia. Encapsulation: Fill capsules with powder for convenient daily use. Herbal Formulas: Combine with other adaptogenic roots in traditional tonic formulas.

100% Pure, Non-GMO. Available in Powder (2 oz, 4 oz, 8 oz).
