Description
Paprika, Hungarian Ground
(Capsicum annuum)
Hungary and paprika are inseparable — so much so that the spice has become a defining symbol of Hungarian national cuisine and culture. Capsicum annuum — the sweet pepper — was introduced to Hungary via the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century, and over the following centuries, Hungarian farmers and spice makers developed a tradition of paprika cultivation and processing that is unrivaled anywhere in the world. The Szeged and Kalocsa regions of Hungary became the epicenters of paprika production, and Hungarian paprika earned a global reputation for its exceptional depth of color, sweetness, and complexity. Our Hungarian Ground Paprika is made from carefully selected, dried sweet red peppers ground to a fine, vibrant powder — mild in heat, rich in natural sweetness, and brilliant in its characteristic deep red color.
Hungarian paprika is rich in a remarkable array of phytochemicals and nutrients including capsanthin and capsorubin (the primary carotenoid pigments responsible for paprika’s vivid red color), beta-carotene, zeaxanthin, lutein, cryptoxanthin, vitamin C (one of the richest spice sources), vitamin A, vitamin E, vitamin B6, capsaicin (in very low concentrations in sweet varieties), quercetin, luteolin, iron, potassium, and magnesium. Available in Ground form.
