Description

Orange Peel, Dried

(Citrus sinensis)

The orange — Citrus sinensis — is one of the most beloved and widely cultivated fruits on earth, with origins tracing back to ancient China and Southeast Asia before spreading through the Arab world, the Mediterranean, and eventually the Americas via Spanish and Portuguese explorers in the 15th and 16th centuries. While the juice and flesh have long been prized, it is the peel — the outermost zest layer of the fruit — that concentrates the most complex and aromatic compounds the orange has to offer. Dried orange peel has been a staple of culinary traditions worldwide for centuries, used to perfume and flavor everything from mulled wines and spice blends to confections, teas, and savory dishes. Our dried orange peel is Non-GMO and culinary grade — bright, fragrant, and full of the characteristic citrus character that makes it one of the most versatile botanicals in the kitchen and the apothecary alike.

The peel is exceptionally rich in phytochemicals including hesperidin (a primary flavanone glycoside), narirutin, naringenin, polymethoxylated flavones (tangeretin, nobiletin — found almost exclusively in citrus peel), limonene (the dominant essential oil compound responsible for the bright citrus aroma), linalool, myrcene, alpha-pinene, vitamin C, pectin (a soluble dietary fiber), calcium, potassium, and beta-carotene. Available in Cut & Sifted and Powder forms.
