Description
MSM Powder
(Methylsulfonylmethane)
MSM — methylsulfonylmethane — is an organosulfur compound that occurs naturally in small amounts in a wide variety of foods including fresh fruits and vegetables, grains, milk, and meat, and is also present in the human body as a normal metabolite. It is one of the most commercially significant dietary sulfur supplements available, valued for its high bioavailability and the fundamental importance of sulfur in human biochemistry.
Sulfur is the third most abundant mineral in the human body by weight (after calcium and phosphorus), present in virtually every cell and essential to the structure and function of numerous biological molecules. It is a key component of collagen (the most abundant protein in the body, forming the structural matrix of skin, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, and bone), keratin (the structural protein of hair and nails), glutathione (one of the body’s primary endogenous antioxidants), taurine, methionine, cysteine, and numerous enzymes and coenzymes. The sulfur in MSM is in a highly bioavailable organic form — methylsulfonylmethane — that is readily absorbed and utilized by the body.
MSM is chemically related to DMSO (dimethyl sulfoxide), the well-known industrial and pharmaceutical solvent — MSM is the oxidized form of DMSO and shares some of its chemical properties while being odorless, tasteless, and far more suitable for dietary supplementation. Our MSM Powder is 99% pure methylsulfonylmethane — a fine, white, odorless, tasteless crystalline powder that dissolves readily in water, juice, or any beverage without altering flavor or texture.
