Moringa Leaf — Cut & Sifted · Certified Organic

(Moringa oleifera)
Certified Organic · Non-GMO · From India

Moringa is one of the most nutritionally extraordinary plants on Earth — a fast-growing, drought-resistant tree of the family Moringaceae native to the sub-Himalayan foothills of northern India, now cultivated throughout tropical and subtropical regions of Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Moringa oleifera — known as the “Miracle Tree” or “Drumstick Tree” — has been cultivated and used as a food plant in South Asia for over 4,000 years, and virtually every part of the tree is edible and nutritionally valuable: the leaves, pods (drumsticks), seeds, flowers, roots, and bark have all been used in traditional cuisines and herbal systems across the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia, and Africa.

In Ayurvedic medicine, moringa — known as shigru or sahjan — is one of the most important plants in the entire pharmacopoeia, listed in ancient Sanskrit texts as a remedy for over 300 conditions and prized for its extraordinary nutritional density. The Kalahari Desert peoples of southern Africa have used moringa seeds to purify water for centuries — the seeds contain natural coagulants (cationic proteins) that cause suspended particles in turbid water to clump and settle, a traditional water purification technique now studied by engineers as a low-cost solution for developing regions. In the Philippines, moringa leaves — called malunggay — are a staple green vegetable, added to soups, stews, and rice dishes daily, and the plant is so culturally embedded that it is sometimes called the “mother’s best friend” for its traditional use as a nutritional food for nursing mothers.

Moringa leaves are among the most nutritionally dense leaves of any plant known — containing protein (approximately 27% by dry weight, with a complete amino acid profile including all nine essential amino acids), calcium (approximately 17× more than cow’s milk by weight), iron (up to 28mg per 100g dry weight — approximately 25× more than spinach), vitamin A (beta-carotene), vitamin C, vitamin E, B vitamins (B1, B2, B3, B6, folate), potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, copper, selenium, and manganese. The leaves also contain a rich array of phytochemicals including isothiocyanates (moringin — unique to Moringa), glucosinolates, flavonoids (quercetin, kaempferol, rutin, myricetin), zeatin (a naturally occurring cytokinin), chlorogenic acid, beta-sitosterol, and caffeoylquinic acids. Our Moringa Leaf is Certified Organic and Non-GMO, sourced from India.
