Jasmine Flowers — Whole Dried

(Jasminum officinale)

Few flowers in the world carry a fragrance as instantly recognizable — or as deeply embedded in human culture — as jasmine. Jasminum officinale, known as Common Jasmine or Poet’s Jasmine, is a vigorous, twining climber of the olive family (Oleaceae) native to the Caucasus, northern Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the Himalayas, and cultivated for centuries across the Mediterranean, Middle East, South Asia, and East Asia for its exquisitely fragrant white star-shaped flowers. Jasmine is the national flower of Pakistan, the Philippines, and Indonesia, and holds deep symbolic significance across cultures — associated with purity, love, beauty, and spiritual devotion from the gardens of Persia to the temples of India.

The jasmine flower’s extraordinary fragrance comes from a complex bouquet of volatile aromatic compounds including benzyl acetate, linalool, indole, benzyl alcohol, jasmone, and methyl jasmonate — the latter two being the compounds most characteristic of the jasmine scent profile and the source of the word “jasmonate” in plant biochemistry. One important note for buyers: dried jasmine flowers do not retain the same fragrance as fresh jasmine. The key scent molecules are highly volatile and largely dissipate during the drying process — dried flowers are prized for their visual beauty, their mild residual floral character in teas, and their use in potpourri and crafts, rather than as a substitute for jasmine essential oil or fresh flowers. The flowers also contain flavonoids (rutin, quercetin, kaempferol), iridoids, saponins, and phenolic acids.

How to Use

Jasmine Tea: Add a small handful of dried jasmine flowers to loose-leaf green or white tea, or steep alone in hot water (175–185°F) for 3–5 minutes for a delicate floral infusion. The flavor is gently floral and subtly sweet. Blended Teas: Combine with green tea, chamomile, rose petals, or hibiscus for beautiful custom floral blends. Potpourri: Whole dried jasmine flowers add visual beauty and a soft residual floral note to potpourri and dried flower arrangements. Soap & Candle Making: A classic botanical addition to handmade soaps, bath salts, and candles — the flowers hold their shape and color well in cold-process soap. Culinary: Use sparingly as an edible floral garnish for desserts, cocktails, and rice dishes in the tradition of jasmine-scented rice. Crafts: Perfect for pressed flower art, resin projects, and floral wreaths.

Available in 1 oz, 4 oz, 8 oz, and 16 oz sizes.
