Lavender 40/42 is actually a blend of lavenders from Spike Lavender, English Lavender, Lavandin Grosse and Spanish Lavender. These lavenders are blended to create a lavender oil that is 40% linalool and 42 % linalyl acetate which creates a standardized oil and this will give the same scent year after year. It is a 100% lavender oil but is a combination of lavenders giving crafters the same consistent scent in their candles, soaps, and toiletries.By creating this blend distillers can keep a fairly consistent price on the product and we all like that! There seems to be a prejudice against lavender 40/42 as being inferior and not true lavender. This is far from the truth. All variants of lavender have wonderful therapeutic qualities. Mix a few lavenders together and you have a wonderful blend of therapeutic qualities. This is like mixing 3 or 4 whiskeys together, would that suddenly not have any therapeutic qualities? It would be very therapeutic!
