Summertime and special skin problems
There is fungus among us!!. Summertime brings us some special skin problems. Athletes Foot, Jock Itch, Ringworm, and although not a fungus, scabies, and head lice are a few of the gifts Mother Nature has bestowed upon us. One out of three kids will get a fungus infection sometime before adulthood, so it is very common.
Now that you have made your appointment with the dermatologist and have to wait three weeks, lets take a look at what might be done naturally to ease the misery or prevent the spread of the infected site.
If you have or your child has reoccurring fungal infections this may be a sign of a weaken immune system. People with AIDS, Diabetes, or those on antibiotics, or the birth control pill need to take extra care because they are more susceptible to a fungus infection.
Ringworm is actually a fungal infection and not a worm. It forms a red patch with a raised crusted edge around it, looking like a worm. Since this is a fungal infection then you need to fight it with an element that has an "antifungal" property. I would point at garlic as the one most powerful and most available antifungal agents. Whirl up some raw garlic in the blender and then dab the liquefied garlic on the ringworm site with a cotton ball, leave it on as long as you can stand the smell or as long as the child will allow before having a fit.
Ringworm is carried by cats and dogs so check your pets for patches on their bodies.
Tea Tree oil is another antifungal agent. Alot of people find that Tea Tree oil is irritating so perhaps mixing drops in castor oil may help. A note of caution..keep this essential oil and all other essential oils away from children, an ingested teaspoon can be deadly.
Athlete's Foot is another miserable fungal infection which thrives in warm moist places like between the toes. Keeping the toes dry and exposed to fresh air will help. Public pool locker rooms and shower rooms at the gym are great breeding grounds for this. Here is my recipe for
Anti-Athlete's Foot Soak.....
You will need A foot basin of some warm water
Add to the warm water:
4-6 crushed cloves of garlic
add several drops of Tea Tree oil
a cup of strong Pau'D'Arco tea
a strong cup of Chamomile tea
a cup of Ginger tea
a cup of St. John's Wort Tea.
(The St. Johns Wort is antiviral but will also help to deaden the nerve endings thus relieving the awful itch.)
After the soak ,dry the area and allow to be exposed to the air, put on clean socks before running all over the house with infected feet. One more hint..always apply clean socks over your infected feet before putting on your clean underwear, this will prevent the Athletes foot fungus from spreading from the feet to the groin. When that happens ..we now call that Jock Itch.....tis not pleasant for male or female.
